Our Appointment System

Dear Patients

We have recently changed the way we triage on the day urgent calls but rest assured that if we aren't able to offer you an on the day appointment or you aren't able to take a call from our on call Doctor we are able to offer a small amount of alternative GP appointments at local hospitals such as, Wimborne, Poole and Bournemouth.

Normal pre bookable appointments remain the same.

The GP Forward View (GPFV) identified 10 High Impact Changes that GP Practices could adopt to help release capacity for their doctors and allow them more time with their patients. 

Active Signposting is one of the 10 High Impact Changes.  Across Dorset CCG practices we are implementing the “Care Navigation Training Programme”  having trained our receptionists and clerical staff; to help patients  identify  the most appropriate place for their care.  This means you will notice your receptionist asking you for a brief outline of your problem when you call to make an appointment. Through this specialist care navigation training, the practice team will be able to offer you more choice on who the best health care Clinician may be in the practice and also help direct you to get to the right health Clinician fast. Receptionists will never offer clinical advice or triage; this new way of working is about offering the choice to see other specialists in the practice team. If they have the expertise to deal with the problem; it will often be quicker and you may not need to see the GP each time.

We have several other practitioners working in the surgery alongside the GPs.  Advanced Nurse Practitioner Tracy Dominey who specialises in Women’s health and minor ailments. Clinical Pharmacist Dee Loughman who deals with medication related issues and reviews. Paramedic Practitioner Wendy Woolgar and ECP Jackie Windsor who undertake a lot of home visits and minor ailment reviews.

By working this way, it helps to free up time for GPs to care for patients with complex or serious health conditions that can only be managed by the GP.  More importantly though,  it means that you are seen by the Clinician that is best placed to manage your clinical problem. The choice is always yours though and you will never be refused a GP appointment but we hope that next time you contact your GP and speak with the receptionist you will see the value of seeing another health Clinician if they are able to help.

Opening Hours

The surgery reception is open between 8.30am and 6.30pm on weekdays.
The surgery is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

We are however working to improve access to appointments for our patients, in particular at evenings and weekends. If you would like to be offered one of these appointments, please ask. These appointments are being held at Poole Hospital.

    Blood Appointments

    A supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests. Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems, will still get one but where your clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled. Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available. If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.
