Exciting News About Community SWITCH

Posted on July 8th, 2026

Joining Forces for Better Community Health!

Orchid House Surgery is delighted to announce that we have partnered with GP practices across East Dorset to offer our patients the Community SWITCH (Supporting Wellbeing, Improving the Community’s Health) programme.

A New Perspective: “What Matters to You?”

Traditional healthcare often focuses on the question: “What is the matter with you?”

While treating illness remains a vital part of what we do, Community SWITCH shifts the focus toward a holistic, person-centred approach: “What matters to you?”

Community SWITCH doesn’t replace your existing GP care—it complements it. By looking at the bigger picture of your everyday life, we can help you find practical solutions and local activities that truly make a difference to your daily wellbeing.

How Community SWITCH Can Help

Depending on your personal goals and needs, the programme connects you with a wide range of local support. On referral from a GP, a member of our Social Prescribing team will work with you to:

  • Find local activities: Connect with community groups, exercise classes, or wellness programmes.
  • Set personal goals: Create a tailored plan to help you feel more in control of your health.
  • Access practical support: Find guidance on matters such as housing, debt, and social isolation.
  • Stay on track: Have regular check-ins to monitor your progress and adjust your plan as your needs change.

Can I Use SWITCH to Help Myself?

Yes! You do not need to see a GP to get help.

You can refer yourself directly or use the online tools available to find resources that fit your personal goals.
