Travel Health and Vaccinations

If you are planning to travel abroad, you may need vaccinations to protect you against serious diseases found in other parts of the world.

Step 1: Check your requirements

It is your responsibility to check what you need for your destination. Visit TravelHealthPro, the official NHS-partnered site, to find:

  • Which vaccinations are recommended for your destination.
  • Current travel health alerts and risks.
  • Advice on staying safe from insects, sun, and contaminated food or water.

Step 2: Submit your form (at least 8 weeks before you travel)

Because travel vaccines take time to work and may require multiple doses, we cannot help you if your trip is less than 8 weeks away.

  • Download: Our Travel Risk Assessment Form
  • Collect: You can also pick up a form from the Orchid House Surgery reception.
  • Return: Hand your completed form into reception at least 8 weeks before your departure date.

Step 3: What happens next?

A member of our team will review your form.

  • If you need NHS vaccines: We will contact you to book an appointment. If you haven’t heard from us after 2 weeks, please call the surgery.
  • If you need private vaccines: We no longer offer a private travel service. You will need to visit a local high street clinic (such as Boots or the Wimborne Travel Clinic) for these.

Which vaccines are free on the NHS?

The following travel vaccines are usually free at the GP surgery if they are required for your destination:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid
  • Combined Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Polio

All other vaccines (such as Yellow Fever, Rabies, or Hepatitis B for travel) must be paid for at a private clinic.
