How we manage your information

At Orchid House Surgery, we take your privacy and the safety of your medical records very seriously. We follow strict UK data protection laws to ensure your information is kept secure and used only for your care.

Privacy Notice

Our Privacy Notice explains and describes how this GP Practice uses and manages the information it holds about its patients and service users.  This includes how the information may be shared with other NHS and non-NHS organisations, as well as how its confidentiality is maintained.  It provides details about:

  • What personal data is collected.
  • The purposes for which the data is used.
  • How the data is stored and protected.
  • Who the data may be shared with.
  • The legal basis for processing the data.
  • Patients’ rights regarding their data.

 Data Protection and GDPR

We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This means we only collect the information we need to provide you with healthcare. You have the right to see the information we hold about you.

You can view your records:

Sharing Your Data

Summary Care Records (SCR)

Your Summary Care Record is a digital version of your key health information (such as your medicines and allergies). It can be seen by authorised staff (such as A&E doctors or paramedics) who are treating you outside the surgery.

  • The Benefit: It ensures that if you have an emergency elsewhere in the UK, the doctors treating you know your medical history.

You have a choice. If you are happy for your information to be used in this way you do not have to do anything. If you have any concerns or wish to prevent this from happening, please complete a Data Opt-Out form.  This stops your data from being shared outside of this GP surgery for anything other than your individual care.

National Data Opt-Out (Online)

The NHS uses some patient data to research new treatments and plan better services. You have the choice to stop your confidential patient information being used for purposes other than your own individual care.  This stops your data from being shared by the NHS for research and planning. This is managed centrally, not by the GP surgery.
