Non-NHS services

The NHS provides certain services which GPs offer and for which we are paid to offer by the NHS. However, there are many things which patients request from GPs which are not covered by this. Visit our Non-NHS services page to learn more.

Self-referral Services

For many health services, you do not need to see a GP for a referral. You can contact these services directly to book an appointment or get support. This is often the quickest way to get the help you need.

Bone, Joint, or Muscle Problems (Physiotherapy)

If you have a new or ongoing injury, you can refer yourself to the Dorset Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service. They provide physiotherapy and advice for hospitals in Wimborne and St Leonards.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

If you are struggling with stress, anxiety, or low mood, you can access support without a doctor’s note.

  • Steps 2 Wellbeing: A free, confidential service for people aged 18+.

  • Connection (24/7 Helpline): If you need urgent mental health support, call 111 and ask for “Connection.”

Lifestyle: Smoking, Weight, and Exercise

  • LiveWell Dorset is your local service for improving your health. They provide coaching and support to help you make long-term changes.
  • Best for: Quitting smoking, losing weight, and drinking less alcohol.
