On this page, you will find information about The Orchid House Surgery and how to find out more about the practice and the team that are here to look after your health and wellbeing.
We use a team approach to provide the best possible clinical care. Having respect for you, your family and carers at all times, we aim to respond to your needs and the needs of the local community.
We have a team of experienced doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals committed to providing you with the highest standard of care and treatment.
In addition to your GP, you’re supported by a whole team of healthcare professionals who work together to help you stay well and get the right care when you need it.
While many people know about GPs, nurses, and healthcare assistants, there are also other experts who may be involved in your care.
We welcome new patients living in Ferndown, West Moors, West Parley, and the surrounding areas.
Your experience at the surgery matters to us. To help your appointment go as smoothly as possible, we’ve outlined what you and your carers can expect when visiting our practice. From arrival procedures to our commitment to your privacy, you can find all the essential information here to prepare for your visit.
We are an approved Training Practice for GP Specialist Trainee Doctors.
Our trainee doctors are guided and supported by Dr Yau, who is approved by the Wessex deanery as a GP Trainer.
The Wessex GP Education Department supports the recruitment and retention of doctors in general practice. It also plays an active role in many processes that support primary care, in particular, continuing professional development.
Orchid House Surgery has just been granted the authority to conduct research, which means that we can now carry out research that aims to benefit our patients. Our research team is not yet fully established as we are in the early stages of this programme.
We are an Armed Forces veteran-friendly accredited GP Practice, and take our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant seriously, ensuring that no veteran is disadvantaged when accessing healthcare.
The NHS want you to have the best possible experience of care. The NHS Friends and Family Test (FFT) gathers your feedback so we can continually review and improve our service to you.
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice. The required disclosure for the financial year 2024/25 is shown below.
The average pay for GPs working in Orchid House Surgery in the last financial year was £87,370 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 2 full-time GPs, 3 part-time GPs, and 2 locum GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.
However, it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgment about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.
We make every effort to give the best service possible to everyone who attends our practice.
However, we are aware that things can go wrong, resulting in a patient feeling that they have a genuine cause for complaint. If this is so, we would wish for the matter to be settled as quickly and as amicably as possible.
At Orchid House Surgery, we take your privacy and the safety of your medical records very seriously. We follow strict UK data protection laws to ensure your information is kept secure and used only for your care.
To help you find answers quickly, we have gathered our most Frequently Asked Questions in one place, covering everything from reception queries to recent patient feedback.
