Community SWITCH

We are pleased to announce that we are joining forces with GP practices across East Dorset to bring you the Community SWITCH programme!

SWITCH (Supporting Wellbeing Improving the Community’s Health) connects you to local support, activities, and services that can help improve your overall health and quality of life. By bringing together the NHS, charities, voluntary groups, and public sector partners, SWITCH delivers truly joined-up care. It works alongside your existing GP care by taking a holistic, person-centred approach—focusing on “What matters to you?” rather than just “What is the matter with you?”

Whether you need support with social isolation, physical well-being, or finding local activities, SWITCH is here to help. Find out more on our website: www.orchidhousesurgery.co.uk/community-switch/

MenB Vaccinations

The MenB vaccine will be available through participating community pharmacies from late July 2026 for eligible patients. If you are eligible, you will be contacted in due course with information about how to access the vaccination from the pharmacy.

Appointments not attended

In June, we saw an increase in the number of appointments that patients did not attend compared with previous months. If you are unable to make your appointment, we kindly ask that you let us know as soon as possible. This allows us to offer your appointment to another patient who may be waiting to be seen. We understand that the recent hot weather may make it more difficult for some people to attend their appointments. If you are unable to come, please give us a call to cancel or rearrange your appointment at a more convenient time. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us make the best use of our appointments for everyone.

Friendly Food Club Challenges

The Friendly Food Club have told us about some exciting new challenge events that they have added to their events calendar.

Across Dorset, more than 380,000 people are at medium to high risk of food insecurity. This means that they don’t have access to enough healthy, nutritious food that is needed for growth, development and living healthy lives. By taking part in these challenges, you will be raising money that will give them the skills and confidence to change that.

Whether you are a keen walker, cyclist or want to jump out a plane at 15,000ft, they have the perfect event to challenge you. They also have access to around 50 events, including overseas adventures, so if you can’t find what you are looking for, or want additional information, please email Cameron at bookings@thefriendlyfoodclub.org and he will be able to help you.
