Non-NHS Services

The NHS provides certain services which GPs offer and for which we are paid to offer by the NHS.

However, there are many things which patients request from GPs which are not covered by this.

We do not have private patients. However, in addition to the care that the doctors give under the National Health Service, they are often asked to provide other services for which a separate charge is made. These include private medical certificates, various medical examinations and reports for employers, solicitors, insurance companies, driving medicals.  All Request must be paid for in advance as this work falls outside of NHS requirements and be accompanied  Please do not book appointments to complete private work. You will be contacted if an appointment is needed.

GPs do not have to carry out non-NHS work on behalf of their patients. However, we undertake some work as we appreciate that this service is valuable and of use to patients. Non-NHS services are chargeable.

Examples of non-NHS services for which GPs can charge their NHS patients are:

  • Accident/sickness insurance certificates
  • Private medical insurance reports
  • Holiday cancellation claim forms
  • Referral for private care forms (i.e. BUPA forms, Vitality forms)

Examples of non-NHS services for which GPs can charge other institutions are:

  • Medical reports for an insurance company
  • Some reports for the DSS/benefits agency
  • Examinations of occupational health
  • Requests from solicitors for patient record

Our GPs do not provide a passport signing service, fitness to fly letters, Sports medicals and statements of fact relating to general health e.g. fit to run a marathon

Please check with the receptionist for the current fees and a copy of one of our private request forms. Or Alternatively please download and complete one of our Request for GP to Complete forms, which includes a list of the current fees, and bring this into reception.
